Show me how to help

I heard a man of prominence say the other day, "I have amended the language of my prayers.  Instead of saying, 'Bless the poor and the sick and the needy,' I now say, 'Father, show me how to help the poor and the sick and the needy, and give me resolution to do so.'"  (Gordon B. Hinckley, Teachings of Gordon B. Hinckley, 1997, 458)

God teaches us with his blessings

How can you and I remember, always, the goodness of God, that we can retain a remission of our sins?... The Holy Ghost brings back memories of what God has taught us.  And one of the ways God teaches us is with his blessings; and so, if we choose to exercise faith, the Holy Ghost will bring God's kindness to our remembrance.  (Henry B. Eyring, To Draw Closer to God: A Collection of Discourses, 1997, 77-78)

Why do we need prophets?

"Today is not different from ages past. The Lord does not love the people of our day any less than in past times. One of the glorious messages of the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ is that God continues to speak to His children! He is not hidden in the heavens but speaks today as He did in ancient days."

Freedom must be carefully chosen

"Now listen to me, people for this is the key—evil can be twisted into virtue if you phrase it just right.  Any vice is acceptable if you cloak it as an issue of freedom.  Any immorality is worth fighting for if you tell them they are fighting for choice, if you wrap it in the mantle of privacy and freedom.  So take their moral agency and turn it on them.  But be patient… be patient… it takes time to turn the truth upside down."  Prologue: The Brothers, Chris Stewart, page 101, 2003

Having a bad day?

"The point is this: if you're having a bad day, you've got a lot of company--very, very good company.  The best company that has ever lived (the Savior)."  (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, "Lessons from Liberty Jail," Ensign, Sep 09, 31)

Packets of Light

"Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high. They can become the key to open the channel to communion with our Father in Heaven and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ."

No limits

Whether we are at the beginning or the end, whether we are young or old, the Lord can use us for His purposes if we simply set aside whatever thoughts limit our ability to serve and allow His will to shape our lives.  (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Always in the Middle, Ensign, July 2012, 5)

Faith points toward the future

"We look back to claim the embers from glowing experiences but not the ashes. And when we have learned what we need to learn and have brought with us the best that we have experienced, then we look ahead and remember that faith is always pointed toward the future."

Hold on a Little Longer

"If ever you are tempted to become discouraged or to lose faith, remember those faithful Saints who remained true in Kirtland. Hold on a little longer. You can do this! You are part of a special generation. You were prepared and preserved to live at this important time in the existence of our beautiful planet earth. You have a celestial pedigree and therefore have all the necessary talents to make your life an eternal success story."
--President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Hold on a Little Longer", January 2010 Ensign
